Barton Corbin, 44, pled guilty to two counts of malice murder in the 2004 death of his wife, Jennifer, and the 1990 death of his former girlfriend Dorothy Hearn Sept. 15 in Lawrenceville, Ga. (PEOPLE, Sept. 18, 2006). Corbin received two concurrent life sentences and could be eligible for parole in 2020.
Christie Brinkley, 52 (above), served her estranged husband, Peter Cook, 47, a summons with notice—a first step toward divorce—on Sept. 13, Cook's lawyer David Aronson confirms to PEOPLE. "[Peter] is sad," says Aronson. "He was hopeful that they would be able to work through this."
Singer Marianne Faithfull, 59, was diagnosed with breast cancer Sept. 12. The performer, who says her prognosis is "excellent," has postponed her world tour but assures fans that "next year's tour will be one big celebration."
Patricia Kennedy Lawford, sister of the late President John F. Kennedy, died at 82 Sept. 17 at her Southampton, N.Y., home of complications from pneumonia. Lawford, who was married to actor Peter Lawford for 11 years (they divorced in 1966), founded the National Committee for the Literary Arts and worked with the National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse. Her brother Sen. Edward Kennedy, 74, said, "Everyone who knew Pat adored her."... Actor and world champion bodybuilder Mickey Hargitay, father of actress Mariska Hargitay, 42, and former husband of Jayne Mansfield, passed away at 80 Sept. 14 in Los Angeles.... Actor Pat Corley, whose five-decade career included roles in True Confessions, Against All Odds and an eight-year run as Phil the barkeep on the sitcom Murphy Brown, died at 76 Sept. 11 in L.A. of congestive heart failure.
DOG TAKES HIS OWN TRIP TO THE POUND: Dog the Bounty Hunter star Duane Chapman, 53, and two of his costars were arrested Sept. 14 in Hawaii on charges stemming from their 2003 apprehension of Max Factor cosmetics heir Andrew Luster in Mexico, where bounty hunting is illegal. The men, who were released on bail and are awaiting a hearing on possible extradition to Mexico, were originally arrested for not turning Luster—a fugitive convicted of raping three women—over to Mexican police and then jumped bail, says a U.S. Marshals Service rep. "[Dog] arrests the bad guys—he is definitely not one of them," said Chapman's rep.
