At her best Angela Hacker, who won USA Network's Nashville Star competition last month, sounds a bit like Reba McEntire or Bonnie Raitt. She doesn't, however, sound anything like Aretha Franklin on her cover of "Do Right Woman, Do Right Man" or Linda Ronstadt on her take on "When Will I Be Loved." But the remakes on Hacker's debut are better than the mundane originals, such as "You Got Me" (one of four songs she cowrote). The exception? "Hard to Handle," an energetic, almost soulful duet with her brother Zac, the show's runner-up.
