DRAMA

As if fighting in the Iraq War weren't harrowing enough, U.S. soldiers coming home encounter a sobering reality check. Haunted by their experiences and dealing with war wounds both physical and emotional, few are able to simply pick up where they left off. It's a topic explored to stunning effect in last year's documentary The War Tapes but diluted and defanged by Brave.

Four vets return to Spokane, Wash., and cope with missing limbs and distant families. An alienated medic (Jackson) complains, "I don't feel anything." It's not just him: Director Irwin Winkler (De-Lovely) keeps the film devoid of anything resembling genuine emotion. (R)
