Tiger Woods and his wife of more than two years, Elin Nordegren, are expecting their first child this summer, the golfer announced on his Web site Dec. 30 (his 31st birthday). "Obviously, we couldn't be happier, and our families are thrilled," wrote Woods. "I have always wanted to be a dad. I just wish my father [who died last year] could be around to share the experience."

After 17 years of marriage, Michael Jordan and his wife, Juanita, were granted a divorce Dec. 29 in Lake County, Ill., their lawyers confirmed in a statement. In 2002 Juanita filed for divorce but then withdrew her petition a month later. The former Chicago Bulls star, 43, and his wife, 47, have three children: Jeffrey, 18; Marcus, 16; and Jasmine, 14.
Actress Teri Garr, 62, is "recovering nicely" after undergoing surgery to treat a brain aneurysm, her rep tells PEOPLE. "She's alert. She's sitting up. She's talking." The Oscar-nominated actress—who was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in the late '90s—was brought to the hospital Dec. 21 after her daughter Molly, 13, and an employee couldn't wake her up and called 911. "Her humor seems to be intact," adds her rep, who says Garr spent the holidays in the hospital with her brothers. "The prognosis is very, very good."
Less than two months after his conviction, Saddam Hussein, 69, was executed by hanging Dec. 30 in Baghdad for crimes against humanity. (Much of his execution was broadcast on Iraqi television.) Nine months after the invasion of Iraq, the former dictator of more than two decades was captured by American troops in 2003 and underwent a nine-month trial for the 1982 massacre of Shiite Muslims. Hussein's appeal was rejected on Dec. 26.... Denver Broncos cornerback Darrent Williams was killed Jan. 1 in a drive-by shooting while riding in a limousine in downtown Denver. Williams, 24, was struck after a gunman fired from another vehicle, hitting Williams and wounding two others in the car. Police said they were investigating a "disagreement" at a nightclub that Williams visited before the shooting. "All of us are devastated by this tragedy," said the Broncos owner. Williams was drafted out of Oklahoma State University by the Broncos in 2005.
Comedian and actor Jay Mohr wed Las Vegas actress Nikki Cox Dec. 29 at L.A.'s Hotel Bel-Air. The bride wore a Monique Lhuillier dress and Mohr's son, Jackson, 4, served as the best man for the former host of Last Comic Standing. Cox, 28, met Mohr, 36, when he guest-starred on her drama in 2004. This is the first marriage for Cox, who was previously engaged to comic Bob Goldthwait, and Mohr's second.
