Rebels

LATIN POP

This coed sextet rose from the popular Mexican teen soap opera Rebelde, on which they played boarding-school students who start a band. And their English-language debut—which comes after three Spanish studio discs, including the recent No. 1 Latin album Celestial—is the kind of juvenile effort that you might expect from the winners of a high school talent show. Whether on drippy ballads ("I Wanna Be the Rain") or more uptempo numbers that take lame stabs at hip-hop ("My Philosophy") and reggaeton ("Cariño Mio"), these so-called Rebels produce flavorless bubblegum that just won't stick.
