The eight-time Grammy winner, 56, is up for another one (Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for "Day Dreaming") on Feb. 11.

ON HER GRAMMY NOMINATION No matter how many times you've been up for a Grammy, it's still exciting. I'm really excited to be in a category with Mary [J. Blige] and Mariah [Carey]. I'm like their big sister. They're [young] enough to be my daughters.

ON WHO SHE'D LIKE TO WIN BESIDES HERSELF I'm pulling for Mary J. She deserves it. I've watched her become a consummate performer and singer. She had some things to overcome. I'd love to see her kick butt.

ON HER FAVORITE GRAMMY MEMORY It was the year of Unforgettable [1992]. I thanked my former record company for letting me out of my contract. It was the label that had my dad's catalog. We ended up making that record with another label, which is kind of ironic.
