A man's man, the kind a guy would be glad to hoist a beer with. A lady's man, the kind a girl would be glad to hoist anchor with. Gibson is both—and a credible, high-adrenaline Dane besides. As his Hamlet director, Franco Zeffirelli, puts it, "[He's] magnificent, with a beautiful voice and a very intelligent mind." Of late, Gibson has been decompressing on his Australian ranch with his wife, Robyn, and their six children. He does chores, looks after his organically raised cattle and saddles up for rides with the older kids. In August he'll strap on a Lethal Weapon 3 and go back to work, with two more ambitious projects to follow: a life of George Polk, the intrepid American newsman who was killed in Greece in 1948, and a romantic fantasy called The Rest of Daniel.
