Picks and Pans Review: Brass Target

Suppose Gen. George Patton died all right after World War II, but not in a highway accident. Suppose he was murdered because he was about to discover who stole $250 million in German gold. That's the premise of this entertaining if hammy suspense drama. George Kennedy plays Old-Blood-and-Guts and John Cassavetes an investigating officer. Sophia Loren, despite top billing, has only a bit part. The all-star international cast also includes Robert Vaughn, Max von Sydow and Patrick McGoohan, who nearly steals the movie as a conniving American officer. Believers in conspiracy theories won't mind the holes in the script big enough to drive a panzer division through. (PG)
