Though not as delightful as Cousin, Cousine, which it's clearly modeled after, this French love story is pleasant enough. Marlene (The Wonderful Crook) Jobert, a lovely actress, plays a wife whose desire for a career of her own is thwarted by a selfish husband and a demanding child. Then, quite by accident, she meets the man of her dreams, Philippe (Cat and Mouse) Leotard. The usual intrigues follow: secret trysts, overheard phone calls and, finally, the sad decision that it will never work. But wait: They meet again, years later, and the flame is rekindled. Director François Leterrier seems reluctant at first to focus in close on his characters, but once he does, the film comes to life, especially when Jobert and Leotard are on camera together. It ends up being a movie to feel good about. (In French with English subtitles) (Not rated)
