Mary, her ill-advised variety show, was quickly recalled for an overhaul last fall. Though this new model looks different, the chassis is the same. MTM plays a TV variety star in a show-within-a-show sitcom format that also allows Moore to sing, dance and gussy up. Regular Joyce Van Patten as her sidekick stirs a few laughs, as do guests Lucille Ball and Mike Douglas. Yet it's still not as much fun as the newsroom used to be.
