The Bard intended the heroine in his tragedy to be only 14, but this is the first production in recent memory to employ an actress actually that young. Rebecca Saire as Juliet is adequate, as is Patrick Ryecart as Romeo, but there's more puppy love than passion in their performances. Celia Johnson is wonderful as Juliet's nurse, and Sir John Gielgud appears as the chorus in this third production of the BBC Shakespeare series.
