Picks and Pans Review: Chattanooga Choo Choo

Yes, there is a Chattanooga Choo Choo, even if it only runs once a year—April 21-22 in 1979. Sponsored by the Atlanta Chapter of the National Railway Historical Society, the train leaves from Peachtree Station in Atlanta and makes a 12-hour, 148-mile trip to the Chattanooga Choo Choo historical complex, which includes the Tennessee city's 70-year-old station house, now a 675-seat restaurant. The high point of the excursion, though, is the return trip, when the train stops, lets off all the passengers and then backs two miles so it can make a power run past them. That gives everyone a chance to take pictures, make tapes or sing along, "Pardon me, boy..."
