Bess (On Our Own) Armstrong is pregnant and afflicted with Hodgkin's disease. Based on Laurel Lee's 1977 memoir of the same title, the TV film shows the poor woman being endlessly poked, X-rayed and operated on. She remains saintly while her husband leaves her, her hospital roommate dies and her hair falls out. Ms. Lee has survived to write a sequel—which, one hopes, if it is adapted for television, won't be so mawkish.
