In a drama based on a remarkable true story (PEOPLE, June 27, 1977) LeVar (Roots) Burton is Donald Lang, a black Chicago youth arrested for murder. The twist is that he's a deaf-mute who can't read or write, understand the charges against him, or defend himself in court. Burton, brooding and imprisoned within himself, is stunning. Paul Sorvino as his deaf attorney adds substantial support.
