Picks and Pans Review: Waltham, Mass.

New Englanders remember how, before Elizabeth Arden closed her Maine Chance beauty farm, she prescribed her moisturizing lotions for her horses—fearing the sun was ruining their skin. Now the likes of Ginger Rogers, Zsa Zsa and Magda Gabor and Mrs. Tip O'Neill have trotted over to Yolanda in Waltham where, she claims, "beautiful life-styles begin." In case of sudden weight loss, this spa stocks designer frocks by Calvin Klein, Halston and Bill Blass. "The only sad thing about it," says Yolanda, "is that occasionally we get the woman who loses weight, changes her image, starts stepping out and then decides to leave her husband." Slightly more stuffy is the Sidney Hill Country Club in nearby Newton. Jack and Ted Kennedy, Richard Cardinal Cushing and Moshe Dayan have all puffed away there, but the current star is an 84-year-old woman who does 75 sit-ups without stopping.
