Picks and Pans Review: From Here to Eternally
Remarkably, four of the current five Spinners are the same quartet who founded the vocal group in Detroit in 1958. Even more remarkably, they have managed to keep updating their sound so that it is now a quite captivating, relaxed combination of late-'50s rhythm and blues, soul and restrained disco. This album includes a pleasant, ballady Plain and Simple Love Song, a medium-tempo tune, Once You Fall in Love, on which bass Pervis Jackson gets to toss in afterbeat asides, and, for the more energetic, Are You Ready for Love (which has had considerable success as a single) and One Man Wonderful Band. Even if it weren't otherwise admirable, the album would be notable for providing one of the few "bop-shoo-bop-sha-bop" backgrounds written into a tune in recent memory.
