Although the plot never goes anywhere, Anthony (Equus) Hopkins is superb as Edmund Kean, the 19th-century womanizing, egomaniacal, hard-drinking, vainglorious stage star who became the "patron saint of actors." This two-episode drama/farce (the conclusion airs next Sunday) is an update of Jean-Paul Sartre's 1953 update of Alexandre Dumas' 1886 version.
