Phil Donahue
Phil Donahue has saved my brain from turning into mashed potatoes and baby food. And he's cute to boot (PEOPLE, Aug. 27).

At a quarter to Donahue, children start their naps. On the hour my feet go up and my mind opens. As Phil says, "We're here to learn." This is the best hour of the day.

I saw the show with Rosalynn Carter. Donahue was indeed a ruthless interrogator. He tried, condemned and hanged her for what he considered her husband's misdeeds. Although his inflated ego and pious pomposity had at other times forced me to switch channels, this finished him for me.

I have to work, but it's worth my time to videotape Donahue to watch when I get home. What a treat! Maybe one day the networks will give him the recognition he deserves—a shot at a late-night show. Now there would be competition for Johnny Carson.

Susan Brownmiller
To Susan Brownmiller and her crusade against pornography in Times Square: If you don't like it, don't look. It's a worthless journey. If you took away the church, people would still pray.

Just to show that it can be done, our organization, C.A.P. (Citizens Against Pornography), recently completed year-long picketing against such slime shops. With the help of the vice squad and sheriff's office, we closed and ran out of town 22 such places, not to mention porno king Michael Thevis. We've also heard that Orlando and the Tampa Bay area are organizing their own pickets.

Stanley Marcus
Mr. Marcus highly underrates his own store. I have been to Gucci and to Neiman-Marcus, and I found Neiman-Marcus equal, if not superior, in rudeness to Gucci.

I enjoyed Stanley Marcus' views of the best of everything, but he left out one—the best magazine. PEOPLE, of course.

Thanks, but for Marcus it's The New Yorker.—ED.
Eunice Shriver
Everything was so worthwhile as I watched my beautiful 14-year-old retarded daughter compete and win her first ribbon in the Special Olympics. How very "special" these children and adults are. Thank you, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.

What does Ethel mean, "It's a shame Eunice wasn't a man because she'd make a great President"? This is 1980 we're coming into, not 1920. Besides, Eunice is the only Kennedy qualified.

Joan Baez
Your assessment of Joan Baez' Honest Lullaby was more than I could take. If you can't see Joan delivering "any real feeling" in For All. We Know, a tune she has dedicated to prisoners on death row many times, and For Sasha, a moving piece about the Holocaust, you must have socks in your ears.

Yaz & Brock
Why couldn't you have just done an article on Lou Brock and his 3,000 hits? Why did you have to bring in some guy from the American League who hasn't even done it yet?

At 2,995 as of September 3, Carl Yastrzemski should have his 3,000th hit within the week, making him the first AL player to get that many hits plus 400 home runs. The only NL players who have done that are Musial, Mays and Aaron.

Soraya Khashoggi
Let me get this straight. Soraya was divorced in 1974, says the divorce is invalid, has since remarried (albeit briefly) and is now suing for $2.54 billion from her first husband! Honestly, it's no wonder so many men are bitter and chauvinistic. Community property is one thing, but this situation is really a laugh. Unfortunately, Soraya will probably have the last one.
