As the sardonic butler of the Tate household, Robert Guillaume put the sting in Soap during its first two seasons. His reward is a spin-off series where he's hired by a bumbling state governor and winds up, naturally, as a one-man kitchen cabinet. Missy Gold, as the governor's young daughter, is precociously precious. Inga Swenson needs only jackboots to complete her role as an intimidating German housekeeper. The humor is broad, but compared to most sitcoms, it seems like Molière.
