Picks and Pans Review: Big Shamus, Little Shamus (premiere)

CBS (9 p.m. ET)

Brian (Foul Play) Dennehy is a large, rumpled, divorced Atlantic City house detective whose job is threatened by the conversion of the city into a gambling resort. His ace in the hole is his 13-year-old son, Doug (Uncle Joe Shannon) McKeon, who serves as amanuensis and part-time sleuth. The pairing is sentimental but effective. This series also takes risks by shooting many scenes on location. The gamble for authenticity with Atlantic City locales pays off in spades.
