Ethel Merman, Carol Burnett, Sandy Duncan, Bernadette Peters, Bobby Van, Richard Chamberlain, John Davidson, Rock Hudson and Agnes DeMille sing and chat in producer-writer-host Sylvia Fine Kaye's tribute to the American musical theater. (See page 39.) The show recreates the original Broadway settings, costumes and orchestrations of 1927's Good News; 1934's Anything Goes, Cole Porter's first smash; 1943's Oklahoma!, Rodgers and Hammerstein's first collaboration, and 1970's Company, the work of Stephen Sondheim. Though tape can't capture the exuberance of a live performance, the show has its pleasant surprises (Chamberlain and Peters singing a Sondheim duet), plus a few real flopperoos (Merman and Hudson massacring You're the Top).
