Picks and Pans Review: Portrait of a Stripper

CBS (9 p.m. ET)

The first hour of this made-for-TVer might as well be in slow motion. Lesley Ann Warren, who convincingly plays a bad dancer (a role she apprenticed for in 79 Park Avenue), stars as a young widow supporting her son by peeling in a seedy nightclub. Only when Warren meets Edward (Eleanor and Franklin) Herrmann, a photographer sent by her father-in-law to gather child custody information against her, do things pick up. Sheree North is strong as a tough ex-dancer, and cinematographer-director John (Chinatown) Alonzo's photography is moody and exciting throughout.
