Picks and Pans Review: Why Not?

UPDATED 10/01/1979 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 10/01/1979 at 01:00 AM EDT

Coline Serreau, a French actress directing her first feature film, depicts a curious menage à trois as two bisexual men and a lustily heterosexual woman set up housekeeping in a run-down area of Paris. Once it moves past the shock effect of seeing two men in bed together, the movie takes some interesting turns with the introduction of a relatively straight fourth partner, the wondrously beautiful Nicole Jamet. Sami Frey and Mario Gonzales play the men, and Christine Murillo is the woman they both love as much as they do each other. All are enjoyable, and Serreau, alternating between humor and tragedy without losing either mood, is an obvious talent. (In French with English subtitles) (Not rated)
