Picks and Pans Review: A Very Big Withdrawal

UPDATED 10/01/1979 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 10/01/1979 at 01:00 AM EDT

Donald Sutherland and Brooke Adams, the leads in Invasion of the Body Snatchers, are reunited in this offbeat caper movie. He plays a con man planning to rob a metropolitan bank by tapping into its computer; she is a hustling photographer who accidentally snaps his picture when he cases the place. Once they fall in love, the film bogs down in tedious romantic byplay until Sutherland finally gets back to his scam. Paul Mazursky, acting instead of directing, is appealingly eccentric as the brains behind the plot, newcomer Leigh Hamilton sparkles as his glamorous girlfriend and Allan Magicovsky is appropriately nuts as Adams' jilted boyfriend. Sutherland and Adams, however, provide the most interesting chemistry. Their match-up arouses fond memories of Tracy and Hepburn and Bogart and Bacall. (PG)
