Picks and Pans Review: Just for the Record

Barbara Mandrell

Of course, Barbara isn't exactly over the hill yet at 30. There are some excessively mannered touches on this LP; she's sexy enough not to need the excess inflections on Darlin' and Love Takes a Long Time to Die. Barbara might also profit from more varied material than this unrelentingly nouveau country-pop. Still, she sings with energy and control from the almost discoish Fooled by a Feeling to the bluesy Selfish. This Mandrell is in no danger yet of becoming known as Louise's older sister.
