Gregory Peck comes on with flash and power as the blustering general in this 1977 movie. (New material was shot just for this first TV showing, which concludes tomorrow, 9-11.) Peck's performance is compelling, but will soon have to stand comparison with Sir Laurence Olivier's in the now-filming Inchon, the Korean war story of one of MacArthur's famed amphibious assaults. Old soldiers never die, they just wade away.
