Picks and Pans Review: Live from New

YORK Gilda Radner

The recording of Radner's summer Broadway show isn't so much Live from New York as Reheated from Saturday Night Live. That's fine for underdone bits like Radner's punk rocker Candy Slice ("Gimme Mick/Babies' hair, bulging eyes, lips so thick/Are you woman/Are you man/I'm your biggest funked up fan/So rock me and roll me/Till I'm sick") or the perky Let's Talk Dirty to the Animals ("___ you, Mr. Bunny"). But her most familiar characters—such as Emily Litella and Roseanne Roseannadanna—seem to rely more on a recognition factor than on strong material. Overall, the album is somewhat like Radner's other standby, Lisa Loopner—hopelessly flat.
