Picks and Pans Review: Dressing for Glamour

UPDATED 01/21/1980 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 01/21/1980 at 01:00 AM EST

by Bob Mackie with Gerry Bremer

Will women walk down the street in sequined loincloths and Indian-feather warbonnets this year? In black-beaded overalls that fit like skin? Could be, if Mackie has anything to say about it. He's the chap who dreams up those outrageous getups for Cher, Raquel, Ann-Margret et al. This book, however, is also packed with photographs of Carol Burnett looking grotesque (Mackie costumed her TV show) and lots of gushing prose about how wonderful all the women he designs for are. Mackie's tips may have some practical value, but mostly for the young, sleek and daring. His style is California. He dwells in an absolute never-never land that has little to do with real women.
