NBC (9-11 p.m. ET)

In a return to the pre-tape days of Playhouse 90 and Studio One, Henry Fonda stars in the first of several live NBC broadcasts of contemporary plays developed by American regional theaters. As the crotchety 75-year-old of this comedy drama by the late Texas playwright Preston Jones, Fonda opposes a land development scheme of his son, George Grizzard. Cloris Leachman, Harry Dean Stanton and Penelope Milford co-star in the production at Southern Methodist University. Thus begins an experiment that may help answer a tingling question: Were live drama and TV's so-called Golden Age all they were cracked up to be?
