Picks and Pans Review: Kenny Rogers as the Gambler

UPDATED 04/07/1980 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 04/07/1980 at 01:00 AM EST

CBS (9-11 p.m. ET)

The pop singer draws all aces in his dramatic debut in a fast-moving TV film based vaguely on his smash 1979 single. Rogers is supercool as a card shark, while Bruce Boxleitner plays his eager protégé, Lee Purcell the obligatory shady lady, Harold Gould a smooth villain and Clu Gulager the nasty one in a surprisingly stylish production.
