Brooke Hayward's 1977 best-seller about her tragic Hollywood family has been turned into a smashing TV movie. The cast is excellent—Lee Remick as the strong-willed actress mother Margaret Sullavan, Jason Robards as Leland Hay-ward, the workaholic agent-producer father, Hart Bochner as the only son trying to fulfill his parents' expectations, Dianne Hull as a daughter who would become a suicide, and Deborah Raff in as Brooke. The family indeed "had been careless with each other," as Brooke says. The meticulous care lavished on this film, produced by her younger brother, Bill Hayward, pays off handsomely.
