Picks and Pans Review: Stretching

by Bob Anderson

To serious exercise buffs, stretching is mere fore-play. The act itself, be it bicycling, running or water polo, is made safer by a few preliminary minutes of rigorous muscle stretching. Anderson, who has taught stretching to the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Denver Broncos, offers warm-up routines for every sport—and every part of the body. Though hamstrung in spots by clumsy drawings, the manual could help improve performance on the field. For nonathletes, stretching techniques can relax a stiff neck better than a stiff drink can.
