Ian McShane is excellent in this four-part dramatization about the wit, dandy and romantic novelist who was England's only Jewish-born Prime Minister. Mary Peach is equally compelling as the older woman who, while guiding Disraeli's political ambitions, becomes the wife many mistresses never could supplant. The show, like its Masterpiece Theatre predecessors, is truly high-class soap.
