Gladys Knight and the Pips

Not often does an album come along that has no throwaway tracks. Gladys and her Pips are still magnificent after 28 years together. (All of the original Pips—brother Merald "Bubba" Knight and cousins William Guest and Edward Patten—are still around, too.) This gratifying album, their 24th, was produced and written by the resourceful Nickolas Ashford and Valerie Simpson, with the latter playing piano on all the cuts. With so many goodies to choose from, it's idle to single out any song. Landlord is climbing the charts, but take your pick.
