Richard Dreyfuss, in the role that established him as a star, plays a hustling 18-year-old who—distraught that the wheel, the safety pin and other great money-makers have already been invented—takes to swindling friends in pursuit of life's purchasable pleasures. So much was edited from this funny 1974 film, based on Mordecai Richler's novel, however, that the network may be throwing its TV debut away during the summer doldrums.
