Natalie Cole

A new Natalie Cole is revealed on this album—the driving, wailing rocker is more subdued and subtle. Someone That I Used to Love, for instance, is a tender ballad, flawlessly delivered. Later, she nods toward her father's generation with a fine version of the standard Stairway to the Stars. The cuts are attractively if heavily orchestrated, some by Cole's husband, Marvin Yancy. Out of her disco phase, Cole is again proving her versatility and musical taste.
