Picks and Pans Review: Rape and Marriage—the Rideout Case

CBS (9-11 p.m. ET)

Oregonian Greta Rideout stirred a nationwide furor in 1978 when she took her husband to court on rape charges. She lost, they reunited, then divorced. This careful dramatization, with fine performances by Linda Hamilton, Mickey Rourke and Rip Torn (as a cruel defense attorney), avoids exploitation by treating the Rideouts sympathetically—and marital rape seriously. The network advises parental discretion.
