This is a collection of 122 works by Wyeth. His subjects include portraits (a romantic JFK, a fey Nureyev), the farm (haystacks, pumpkins, lots of pigs), as well as scenes from his summer home in Maine. Much of this territory has been explored by Andrew Wyeth, Jamie's father, whose influence extends beyond subject matter. Both men are realists. With Jamie, though, the colors are brighter; his paintings have the Technicolor glow of those clever, cheerful illustrations in the old Saturday Evening Post. They seem like magazine covers in a book but might look like fine art when hung in a gallery. (Houghton Mifflin, $30)
