The Blues Brothers
Such is the unfathomable influence of television that Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi have parlayed a brief Saturday Night Live routine into a multimillion-dollar showbiz enterprise. It is as if, by virtue of his imitation of Jimmy Carter, Aykroyd had proven himself qualified to be President. Like the rest of their Blues Brothers shtick, this set is not only musically vapid but strangely devoid of even attempts at humor, other than one loud, pseudo-patriotic rap by Aykroyd. Belushi is about as much a blues singer as Merv Griffin is, and Aykroyd's harmonica playing doesn't seem to have improved with practice. The band, which plays such soul standards as Who's Making Love and Do You Love Me?, is a top-notch bunch of musicians apparently willing to slum a little in the interests of a few laughs and probably many dollars.
