As director Jonathan Miller sees it, Mark (Colin Blakely) loves Cleo (Jane Lapotaire, currently starring in Broadway's Piaf) for her mind. Other innovative liberties? Well, Miller has chosen costumes and set designs inspired by the 16th-century Italian painter Veronese, in an effort "to present Rome and Egypt as Shakespeare might have seen them in his mind's eye."
