Oscar winner Robert (Raging Bull) De Niro plays a movie mogul who builds fantasies but can't find happiness. Robert Mitchum, Jack Nicholson, Jeanne Moreau and Tony Curtis also star in the subdued 1976 release based on F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel, itself inspired by MGM studio whiz kid Irving Thalberg, who died of pneumonia at 37 in 1936.
