Picks and Pans Review: The Adventures of Nellie Bly

Linda Purl warmly and intelligently plays the turn-of-the-century muckraker who smuggled herself into sweatshops and rat-ridden asylums to expose their atrocities in Joseph Pulitzer's New York World. Such exploits (and others, like her 72-day trip around the world in 1889) made her the most famous woman journalist of her age, but this often shallow film gives less than the full story of her whirlwind life.
