Picks and Pans Review: Happy Birthday to Me

Also moldering on the compost heap of horror quickies is this rich-kids-on-campus bloodgusher. Melissa Sue Anderson, who plays the lovable blind daughter on that paragon of family entertainment Little House on the Prairie, inexplicably has chosen to make her movie debut as a brain-damaged student who may or may not be cutting up her schoolmates to punish them for being rude at her birthday party. It's a credit to Anderson, 18, that she fashions a performance of pluck and poignancy out of a convoluted plot and anything-for-a-jolt direction by J. Lee (The Guns of Navarone) Thompson. The rest of the cast, including Glenn Ford as a sympathetic shrink, is mostly body count. The true horror is reserved for unsuspecting TV followers of Melissa Sue. (R)
