Picks and Pans Review: California Gold Rush

UPDATED 07/27/1981 at 01:00 AM EDT Originally published 07/27/1981 at 01:00 AM EDT

NBC (9-11 p.m. ET)

Like contemporary Mark Twain, 19th-century writer Bret Harte could combine comedy, adventure and bareknuckle social criticism in a single yarn. This well-made TV movie combines two Harte stories into a flavorsome look at the Gold Rush. Robert (Airplane!) Hays stars as Harte, and Ken Curtis is grand as a bristly prospector called Kentuck.
