Picks and Pans Review: The Manions of America

ABC (9-11 p.m. ET)

The writer-producer godmother of daytime TV, Agnes Nixon (see story, page 71), who created All My Children and One Life to Live, slips into prime time with this six-hour rogue-to-riches story about an Irish immigrant's rise to wealth and power in 19th-century America. Pierce Brosnan is suitably fiery as the rebellious hero, but Kate Mulgrew seems too hard-edged as his aristocratic wife. The lush and lusty production continues Thursday and Friday.
