This is the second album from a talented young English band that is underappreciated in the States. Its strengths are driving pop tunes and deft hooks that often pack an emotional wallop, as in Trouble With Love and As Lovers Do. Yet Chris Parks and songwriter Clive Gregson don't seem to be pulling their weight on guitar. The band sounds too tentative in fast tunes and sluggish in the slow ones, and little instrumental flourishes are sometimes repeated until they no longer sound clever. But if this band can overcome these minor flaws, its wheels will be in motion all over the power-pop terrain.
