Network Chicken Littles, ruffled by the Moral Majority, have loaded the fall schedule with old faces in hackneyed formats—Robert Stack as a cop, Mike Connors as a cop, James Arness as a cop—and now James Garner as the winning Western gambler he parlayed to stardom 20 years ago. Maverick may be the best of the bunch, but whether viewers will settle for nostalgia over new ideas is questionable. (Premiere)
