Picks and Pans Review: Dark Tower

UPDATED 12/07/1981 at 01:00 AM EST Originally published 12/07/1981 at 01:00 AM EST

A distant, electrified relative of Dungeons and Dragons, this game's board is divided into four kingdoms surrounding the tower in question. Players record their moves and the tower displays the results. If you meet a dragon, for instance, he'll take your warriors and gold; if a plague develops, you'll lose warriors (unless they're saved by a healer). Survivors can storm the tower. At the end, the tower will flash your score, based on strategy and luck; maximum is 99. The rules, especially for non-D&D fans, take a while to absorb. Turn away to grab a cookie and you're lost ($40).
