Debbie (Ragtime) Allen, as a dance coach, kicks off this new mid-season replacement series (Harper Valley and Lewis and Clark are moving to Saturday) inspired by the energetic 1980 movie about young performers who boogie through Manhattan. The unusual format integrates music and dance with a quick-stepping and well-acted story line. Irene Cara, who starred in the movie, won't appear—her similar TV pilot, Irene, recently flopped.
