Kippi Brannon

It is at best irrelevant and at worst an insult to audiences' intelligence that this 15-year-old Nashville girl is being hyped as a Brooke Shields look-alike. Made up and posed in the right way, she does look like Shields, but so what? What's important about her, and likely to be overlooked if she and her producer, Charles Howard Jr., aren't careful, is that Brannon, a sophomore at Goodlettsville High School, has an astonishingly mature, rich voice. This is just a 45 single, really a test run, but she sounds as good—as emotionally involved, too—as most country singers twice her age. There's maybe a little too much breathy catch in her voice but, unembellished by aural studio camouflage, she's a marvel.
